Herring Gull Chick Picture

Herring Gull Chick

Herring Gull Chick
Like many young animals this herring gull has frozen as a predator avoidance measure. Though it is easily located by the human eye, the eye of the coyote or birds of prey rely more on movement to locate prey. That, combined with the screaming, dive-bombing behavior of protective adults, assures survival of adequate numbers of young to sustain the population.
