Branch licking is a form of scent marking at a ground scrape site where a deer rubs it's preorbital, nasal and forehead glands on the overhanging branch, leaving as much scent as possible. In the process of chewing on a licking branch, the deer often salivates heavily on the branch, which results in additional scent communication.
